There are six Fridays left until the end of my Genius Hour Project. In the next six Fridays I hope to perfect the site and possibly add a YouTube account where I can add videos. To show on how I helped people is quite difficult because of the conversations I have with people and the information in those being private. I do hope to be able to impact people's lives through videos, art, talking, and hopefully adding more to our community. I have brought up the idea of an LBGTQ+ friendly club in my school. It's hard to do in the community with the doubt that it will actually help.

The article "Girls Who Code Closing Computer Science Gender Gap" is about the ever growing gender gap in computer science. There are expected to be around 1.4 million job openings in the year 2020 and about 3% of those jobs will be taken by women. Many people don't hear much about women hackers, coders and game creators because computer science is mostly dominated by men.
In order to get more women into the computer science field and to help fuel the girls who already want to go into that field a high school in Coos Bay, Oregon decided to set up a class to teach girls about coding. Currently the group has out thousands of dollars in grants pending to help fund their group. They wanted at least 20 girls to attend and at least 15 girls have signed up. On January 17, 2017, the group held their first meeting in Coos Bay, the classes will be weekly and go through June. Girls Who Code hope to get many more women interested into coding and computer science. Other girls who do attend the club can add it to the resume and it can be a huge benefit when they are looking for jobs. Hopefully in the next few years women will be more interested in the computer science fields. In John Cloud's article titled, "Is Genius Born or Can it be Learned?" Cloud talks about I.Q.'s, geniuses and if being as smart as Albert Einstein is inherited by genes or if it is learned. John goes on saying on how people assume being smart with a high I.Q. is inherited by birth. Being a genius isn't exactly about brain power on how to solve the world's hardest math problem but on how you approach the task. How I have been approaching my Genius Hour project as been away I approach many things in life. If I don't like something find a way to to fix it and that is exactly what I am doing.
In the next few months I hope I can accomplish many for things, especially educating my fellow classmates and having a safe place for other people in the LBGTQ+ community can go and talk. I may not be smart as Albert Einstein but I have creativity, persuasion, and knowledge on my side. I will be able to tackle this in my own genius way. The article ‘What can be Learned by Failure?’ talks about the importance of the Genius Hour project in school. Students are told at they have to have success in school and failing is bad. The Genius Hour project is a project that allows children to loosen up and learn to find success in their failures by correcting their wrongs in the project and moving forth learning from that mistake.
Approaching my project is going to be harder than expected because I have to use prior knowledge and information and experiences by other transgender people. This Genius Hour Page is attended to help inform and help others through this difficult time. During the months of October, November and December are to add as much information and skills I have gathered and learned to help others. I want to help make sure their transition easy and they will always have information to help inform them.
My plan is to start by finding the best ways to come out and how to help your parents understand why and how you came up with this decision. I also want to add information on what to do when or if your parent or guardian doesn’t support your decision. The next step would be on what to do to start your journey into your transition. Answering your What if or Where to next questions. Another step would included the safest way to come out to your school or work place. In between I would like to help people who seem stuck or confused about where they are at, or how they should ‘act’ or ‘wear’. Over the next two to three months I hope to accomplish most or if not all of these. |
