The article "Girls Who Code Closing Computer Science Gender Gap" is about the ever growing gender gap in computer science. There are expected to be around 1.4 million job openings in the year 2020 and about 3% of those jobs will be taken by women. Many people don't hear much about women hackers, coders and game creators because computer science is mostly dominated by men.
In order to get more women into the computer science field and to help fuel the girls who already want to go into that field a high school in Coos Bay, Oregon decided to set up a class to teach girls about coding. Currently the group has out thousands of dollars in grants pending to help fund their group. They wanted at least 20 girls to attend and at least 15 girls have signed up. On January 17, 2017, the group held their first meeting in Coos Bay, the classes will be weekly and go through June. Girls Who Code hope to get many more women interested into coding and computer science. Other girls who do attend the club can add it to the resume and it can be a huge benefit when they are looking for jobs. Hopefully in the next few years women will be more interested in the computer science fields.
